Laboring People's Cultural Palace

The Laboring People's Cultural Palace (Laodong Renmin Wenhua Gong) was known as the Temple for Ancestral Worship but was renamed in 1950. It is opposite to the Zhongshan Park and is located on the eastern side of Tiananmen Gate's rear portion. The palace and the surrounding grounds cover an area of 140,000 square m.

First built in 1420 under the Ming Emperor Yongle, it served as the imperial temple for ancestral worship in the Ming and Qing dynasties and now contains a park, a library, a gymnasium and other recreational facilities.
